North Korea reportedthe countrys first confirmed pandemic outbreak, with one person dying from COVID-19.

Experts believe that limited diagnostic facilities were responsible for the low number of cases reported so far. This could result in thousands of people going untreated, resulting in deaths in one of the worlds only two countries without a COVID-19 immunization drive.

A fever of unknown origin has "explosively spread nationally" since late April, according to officials. About 187,800 individuals are being treated in isolation. Around 350,000 people have developed symptoms of the fever, with 18,000 new cases. Around 162,200 people have been treated, but its unclear how many of them have tested positive for COVID-19. One of the six symptomatic people who died was determined to have contracted the viruss Omicron strain.

North Korea announced last year that it had created its COVID testing equipment using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). However, it turned down vaccine supplies from the COVAX global sharing programme and China, potentially putting the great majority of people in a youthful society at danger of infection. The viruss quick spread emphasizes the risk of a serious disaster in a country that lacks medical resources, has denied international immunization assistance and has closed its borders.

The rising number of symptomatic peopleare a cause of concern. Health officials are attempting to organize testing and treatment systems as well as increase disinfection efforts.Authorities have expressed a willingness to advocate for COVID treatment, syringes, and other medical supplies for the North.
